What's the best thing about the holiday season? For many of us, it's hiding out with an awesome book.
To help you choose some excellent titles for winter reading, Barn Owl Review will be delivering a bundle of new book reviews. First up, Eric Morris reviews The Book of Duels by Michael Garriga.
What's even better, if you go to this link, you can hear Garriga read from the book.
Happy holidays, and stay tuned.

The editors of Barn Owl Review are super excited to share a new special feature with you: I’ll Love Mountains as Only a Flatlander Can: An Interview with Poet Shaindel Beers.
It's no secret that we are proud of our Midwestern identity, and we teamed up with some rock star poetry students at The University of Akron to come up with an interview about poetry, place, and social justice.
Please check it out, and huge thanks to Shaindel for her generous responses. There's a brand new poem, too!

Yeah, yeah, so it's now officially mid-August. Whatever. We are bringing the heat with reviews of amazing poetry books, such as Sarah Dravec's review of Interrobang by Jessica Piazza. It's pretty clear that we all NEED this book.
Additional noteworthy tidbits from the staff of Barn Owl Review, Akron's premiere independent, annual poetry magazine:
It's almost back to school for many of us editors. But why write syllabi when you can read excellent collections of poetry, right?

August is here! Summer is in its last chapters. However, that doesn't mean that the Barn Owl Review summer salute to women writers is waning. This week's offering: a review of The Bottom by Betsy Andrews, just out from 42 Miles Press. About this title, Sarah Dravec states, "After all the fear and truth Andrews reveals about our world, she wants there to be hope left for us to find ourselves and to believe in the possibility of eventually being found." Check out the review, and then add this to your late summer reading list ASAP.
